This slightly sweet, slightly bitter blend of Campari, sweet vermouth, and club soda has been captivating drinking enthusiasts for well over 100 years. Our version uses Vermut Lustau Rojo which adds a touch of complexity and roundness thanks to the amontillado used as the base wine. Come give this old-school sipper a try and you are sure to never look back!

WHO INVENTED THE AMERICANO COCKTAIL?

The Americano was invented by Gaspare Campari in the 1860’s in Milan, Italy. Originally called the “Milano-Torino” due to its ingredients, it was later renamed the Americano due to its popularity with American tourists during Prohibition. It is the precursor to the infamous Negroni and is a staple in Italian aperitivo culture, often enjoyed before meals to stimulate an appetite. It was also the first cocktail James Bond ordered in Ian Fleming’s book Casino Royale, which further cemented its place in popular culture.

WHAT GLASS IS AN AMERICANO SERVED IN?

An Americano is traditionally served in a highball glass but could be served in a wine glass with ice as well.

WHAT VERMOUTH IS BEST FOR AN AMERICANO COCKTAIL?

Any traditional sweet, red vermouth is preferred for an Americano as it enhances the color of the Campari. If you decide to use another bitter liqueur in place of Campari, try to find a sweet vermouth that has roughly the same color (Suze and blanc vermouth for example). However, our take for an unforgettable Americano is Vermut Lustau Rojo due to its complex flavor profile. The unique blend of amontillado and pedro ximénez provides depth and a subtle fruity sweetness, beautifully balancing the bitterness of Campari.
