Bodegas Lustau’s oenologist named “Spanish Winemaker of the Year” at the IWC Merchant Awards Spain 2022 gala dinner in Madrid on Monday
Jerez, 30 November 2022. Sergio Martínez has been recognised as the best winemaker in Spain for the fifth time in the prestigious “IWC Merchant Awards Spain 2022”. The winemaker and cellar master of Bodegas Lustau was named as the winner yesterday during the gala dinner that took place in The Westin Palace hotel in Madrid. The accolade of “Spanish Winemaker of the Year 2022” is one of many prizes that the winery has been awarded in the main international competitions this year, being Spain’s most awarded winery in London’s “International Wine Challenge” awards.
Sergio Martínez has spent over 15 years working for Lustau, having headed up the winery team since 2016. In the winemaker’s words: “It is a great honour to receive this award once again. The prize is a recognition of the work put in by the whole team that makes up Bodegas Lustau.”
In addition, Bodegas Lustau has also been shortlisted this year in the “best packaging” category with its “Lustau Oloroso de Pañuelo”, a wine bottled by the company exclusively for Aponiente, Ángel León’s three Michelin-starred restaurant. This category recognises and awards excellence in wine labelling and packaging in 2022.
The new prize given to Lustau’s winemaker joins a collection of awards won by the winery in recent years, strengthening its position of leadership in offering the widest and most highly awarded range of sherry wines.
